Things have been quite interesting lately. I feel like I'm under the weather all of the time - and it's quite possibly because the actual weather is a big fat black hole right now. I don't have much to report today - but I thought I would showcase a few more of my craft weekend layouts. Today is going to be interesting if it keeps the pace of the last week. Things will get better though. I know they will. How do I know? They always do even if it takes a LONG time.
BTW: I added some updates to the inspiration links. If you are all about innovation, check out Lariscrap & Lucy Edson's blogs. I also really like Lea L., Lia A., and Bethany Kartchner's blogs. If you need a little inspiration - go ahead and take a look. That's all for now...So...Until then...Happy Crafting!

No Challenge Layout???
When I originally set up this blog - I had a plan for Monday - Wednesday. Part of my plan was to enter challenges to get my name out there. I also wanted to get other crafters interested in my blog. However, when I made the decision to keep the blog private, I no longer needed to get my name out there to attract readers. Since then, I've started slacking on challenges. I've still tried to make a layout each week. Clearly there is no challenge this week - but I'm hopeful for next week. I need to remember that I want to join a Design Team or get published and I still need my name out there to do that. This layout is another matchy layout. However, it rocks two of my favorite paper lines - Basic Grey & Scenic Route. I also used Diamond Glaze to alter some buttons. I even used thread - a first for me. I like the outcome. I think I might just be getting my mojo back. We'll have to wait and see. Until then...Happy Crafting.

Reading Corner
I'm really excited about this book. I have no idea what can be found inside - but the prospect of a new idea book has me a little bit giddy. I absolutely love craft books. There is something about a new craft book in my hands. It represents infinite possibilities. The book is by Kimber McGray and I checked out her blog today to get an idea of her style. It's not like mine - but I love looking at others take on this hobby.
On another note: I have put The Post Birthday World on hold. I think it's a book I need to tackle over the summer. I have since started reading this book by Sherman Alexie. I'm not too excited yet - but I think I might be in a book slump. I've also determined that I am no longer allowed to buy fiction books for a while. I was searching for my book on Rheumatoid Arthritis and started looking through 3 large book stacks next to my couch. Can you say clutter? I found at least 8 books that I haven't read. I know there's more on my bookshelves - so no books for a while. Not much more to report on the reading front. I hope this Tuesday finds you well. Until then...Happy Reading & Crafting!

Monday Madness
Monday Madness is here and my hands still aren't cooperating - so, this will be another quick & dirty week. At least it will be as quick and dirty as I'm capable of. I took a class over the weekend at Archivers on cardmaking using Basic Grey kits. Until Saturday, I had no idea these kits existed. After taking the class, I've bought 3 more kits. The kit allows you to make 8 cards for $15. The kit includes cards, envelopes, die cuts, chipboard, and rub-ons. I don't believe I could do these cards for less than $15. And, to top if off - they are complete no-brainers (excluding one from the Sultry kit). I think they're gonna be a nice segway into making cards from scratch. I'm still not quite there yet. Someday! I haven't gotten the Lime Rickey kit - but I am all over it next month. I most likely will need to buy it online. :)
For your viewing pleasure - I have also included a picture of the 8 cards I made on Sunday using the Sultry kit. The gate-folded card on the right gave me some trouble. I had to use magnetic snaps and hide them under patterned paper. I just couldn't wrap my head around it at first. Here's hoping you have a wonderful Monday! Until then...Happy Crafting.

Craft Weekend Recap
I realized very early this morning - hello insomnia - I haven't shown anything from my very fun, slightly debilitating craft weekend. So - I took pictures of the five layouts I completed and will be presenting them over the next week. My friend had been talking about half maps (6 X 12) pages for a little while and I still hadn't given them a try. I decided it would be a nice challenge and a change of pace for my creatively blocked right brain. The results of my first attempt at half maps is at the end of this post. If you're interested in half maps and want some sketches to get you started - check out this site. I love this site and the book that came out of it and Becky Fleck's column in Memory Makers Magazine.
This weekend: I have plans to take a cardmaking class at Archivers with some fun gals. The cards are all made with Basic Grey products - which is ambrosia to me. I also have big plans for cupcakes and a medicine run. Also, this is the big weekend. I'm joining my first kit club! I hope everyone has a great weekend. Until then...Happy Crafting!

Humpday Challenge
I hate to say it - but Tuesday kicked my ass a bit. I'm looking forward to a new day! As promised - I am going to outline the process I used to create layouts with Claudine Hellmuth's new "book,"
The Scrapbooker's Creativity Kit: Prompts And Ideas To Jump Start Your Layouts.
First, I drew 3 color cards and 1 word card. The general rule of thumb is to use the word facing up. Based on the color scheme and the word, I chose the paper line Wisteria by Basic Grey and a cool picture of me and my friend Monica at CKC 2008.
The picture matched really well with the line and despite there being a story about the layouts we made, I decided I wanted to talk about friendship. It was plain and simple all around (pun intended). I have to say - this is not my favorite layout. I love what it's about - but it's a little matchy for my taste at the moment. My craft weekend was really about melding different lines together and I feel like this layout departed from that.
For my second layout, I chose the word pure from the One Little Word site and chose two color cards. I really like the idea of choosing a challenge and pulling cards to get colors. I have a tendency to stay in the blue-green family. This kit gets me out of my comfort zone quite a bit. I decided to do a layout about my pure love of painting things - mainly base coats for mini albums. Again - not my favorite layout - but it is different - too matchy though.
All around - it was pretty productive. I plan on using the deck more and mixing it up a little better since clearly I'm choosing from the same color families despite the randomness of the set-up. I'm still on my quick and dirty kick so that's all for now. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday! Until then...Happy Crafting!
BTW: Thanks Monica for all the great pictures - it really got me motivated.

Reading Corner
So here it is - quick and dirty. I bought this book after seeing an article about it in Memory Makers Magazine. I thought it looked PERFECT. I even liked the kit idea. I love the ideas of prompts and challenges because sometimes it's difficult to find something to scrap about when you're single and live with a banshee cat. Imagine my surprise - scratch that, horror - when I found the book to be TINY. It's half the size of a composition book. In fact, it looks like a composition book. Let's just say it was shrink-wrapped and I was so not amused! The book itself has good content - but sheesh I need more! The basic premise centers on two decks of cards. The first deck has prompts. The second deck has colors. You pull one word prompt card and up to two colored cards. Then you build a layout. I tried this for the first time over the weekend and will be posting the results tomorrow. And honestly, I'm still not sure if it's helpful. I'll try to keep you posted. I need to crack these puppies out when I'm in a real slump. That'll be the real test. So that's it for Reading Corner. I hope you have a rockin' Tuesday. Until then...Happy Reading & Crafting.

Monday Madness
I haven't been this excited about the products presented for Monday Madness since Tim Holtz's new stamps. The stamps pictured below are from Unity Stamp Company. I've had my eye on this company for some time - but I have some kind of block when it comes to internet shopping. I do it - but not without some reservations. I saw the Unity Stamps in person at CKC at the beginning of the month and am much more excited about the products. When I saw the three images below, I recognized them immediately as the work of Jessica Rose. I purchased six pictures for my house from her etsy shop. I love her whimsical style. I had seen a few of her images over at Stamping Bella - but hadn't given in quite yet. I won't be doing that anymore. Come next pay day - I will be joining the Unity Stamp Kit of the Month Club and buying the three stamp sets below! Hopefully it won't all be at the same time. I've been wanting to join a KOTM for ages - but hadn't taken the plunge. I believe it was because I needed to see this. I even emailed the company to make sure the kits came in the style I preferred and they do! Which really is enough validation for me. So that's Monday Madness for you - beautiful stamps by a rocking artist. I think my stamp stash is going to be growing in the coming months. One more intention I can cross off my list! I hope you have a beautiful Monday. Until then...Happy Crafting!

I'm Back and Much Better
Hi All! I'm back and it feels good. I'm still trying to take it a little easy - so I'm going to try and make it short and sweet this week - starting with this project. I did this project as part of a challenge. Or, I should say I thought it was part of a challenge - I think it might have been something I made up. Anyhoo - the challenge was to describe yourself in one word with the sentence I am (blank). I couldn't decide on one little word - so I made a mini-book. I worked on it off and on for the last few weeks - I like the finished product. I hope everyone is doing well. Until then...Happy Crafting!
BTW: I swear there WAS an "a" on crafty - gotta go find it. Sheesh. :)

Out of Commission
I hate to do this...but the blog is going to go black for a few days. My hands did not do well after this craft weekend - so I am giving them a break. I will be back ASAP with all kinds of crafty goodness. I hope everyone's week is well. Until then...Happy Crafting.

MIA
Sorry - I forgot to mention in my last post that I was going out of town for a few days and would not be blogging. However, I am back now and have a bunch of things to share (coming tomorrow). I hope everyone had a nice couple of days. I just can't say enough about going to see good friends and getting out of the same tired old place. Until then...Happy Crafting!

Humpday Challenge???
Don't adjust your screens - there is no challenge today. I am currently working on a project (started last weekend) that I believed was part of a challenge. Unfortunately - I'm starting to think it was just in my mind. I can't find it on a challenge site ANYWHERE. So...that project will be on the blog soon - probably next week. In better news, I'm having a craft weekend starting Thursday so there should be all kinds of crafty goodness next week. Tuesday really kicked my ass a bit. But today I'm kicking back. I'm going to have a nice day. I hope you do too. I've included a pic as an apology for no challenge. I hope you enjoy. Have a great Wednesday. Until then...Happy Crafting!

Reading Corner
Welcome to another Reading Corner. On Monday, I thought I was going to have a really hard time finding material for this post - and then I remembered the book I found at Barnes and Noble on Saturday. When I saw the cover, I immediately grabbed the book and headed for the register. However, some small part of me thought I should take a longer look before buying the book. Blind shopping is not a good thing - especially for a girl that just went to CKC. When I took a longer look - I started to like the book much less. However, I realize it does have a place in my library - just not immediately. It's basically about being more free in your crafting/journaling. I'm excited to get this book - I think it could really help me stretch creatively. I just need to wait a little bit. I'm actually quite happy I put it back - not really my style at all.
In other book news - I feel like I've been waiting for ages for Certain Girls to be released on paperback. It comes out today!!! It's available at Target - but I think I might need to wait on this book as well. We'll see how long I hold out on this book. I really enjoyed Good in Bed and this book is a follow-up. However, I still have to finish The Post Birthday World and I have the Sherman Alexie book to read. I need to remember that I don't need this book now. I wonder if anyone else goes through this. BTW: Monday was eventful but good. I'm hoping today goes well. I have a long meeting this afternoon. It's not my favorite thing - but I think it will go well. I hope everyone has a great Tuesday. Until then...Happy Reading and Crafting!

Monday Madness
These beautiful 2 X 3 cards were on the Sassafras Lass blog recently. And, I can honestly say with complete confidence - they will be mine soon. :) They're for sale on the Two Peas in a Bucket site. I have absolutely no idea what I would use them for. I currently have two sheets of October Afternoon cards that I struggle to use. But they're so friggin' cute - I can't NOT have them (I know double negatives). I think their most promising use is on collages. Maybe it would give me the courage to finally get started. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't see these gems at the Creating Keepsakes Convention this weekend. I would have bought them in no time flat. Alas, these cards were not there and I didn't even know they existed! So that's Monday Madness for you. To be honest, I'm surprised I found anything to present since I bought so much friggin' stuff this weekend. Not to mention, I'm having a craft weekend over my spring break starting Thursday. My wallet is really taking a hit this month. For now, I'm going to get away from my computer and rock some crafting time. I hope your Monday is wonderful. I, for one, am going to work tirelessly to make my day a good one. Until then...Happy Crafting!

Today Was a Good Day
Today was a good day. No wait, today was a GREAT day. I haven't said that much lately and I don't have much to say now, just... I had a great day. I loved shopping and laughing with friends. It's so nice to be around people who are fun and caring. That's all I wanted to say. I had a nice day. The universe was very kind to me.
BTW: Stay tuned to the greatness of CKC - hopefully coming this weekend!

Digital Goodness
My first digital layout - this is my first full digital layout also known as the twist mentioned in yesterday's post. I guess I've been doing hybrid layouts for a while. And by hybrid, I mean typing my journaling and titles - nothing too major. Technically this layout fits with the OLW challenge, but I've been wanting to talk about digital scrapbooking for almost a month. I've always been interested in digital scrapbooking but several things got in my way initially.
1. I did not have Photoshop Elements or the $100 to pay for it due to my traditional scrapbooking expenditures. I took care of that situation by borrowing a friend's copy. Shhh, don't tell anyone.
2. I believed digital elements were too costly.
3. I spent most of my time in Photoshop Elements cursing the Adobe gods. Man I didn't understand the program at all.
4. Fear - I would look at other digital pages and believe I could never do anything that cool.
5. To be honest, I wasn't sure I liked 100% digital pages.
6. I love the feel of my traditional scrapbooking supplies - I was worried about giving that up.
7. Sometimes it just takes me a long damn time to start something. Okay, most of the time it takes me a long time to start something.
In the past few months I've learned a few things about digital scrapbooking.
1. Buy books and magazines on digital scrapbooking if you're a newbie. If you're not a book person, there are some great forums online. I went to Jessicasprague.com to learn how to use photoshop actions.
2. Go to Digital Shops and download freebies before committing to digital products. I've only purchased three digital items. I have 130 items in my digital scrapbooking folder. Most of these items are folders with multiple elements. Most of these elements were freebies I have gathered from magazines, books, and digital shops (find a list of my favorite shops at the end of this post).
3. Digital scrapbooking is very creative. It suits me well in terms of layering and altering pictures. I'm a little unsure of how to get the pages printed - but I'm going to research an affordable printing service. I really like my 100% digital layout.
4. Digital scrapbooking is less messy - but harder on my hands. Those clicks on the mouse are not my right hand's friend.
5. Digital scrapbooking is totally doable. Just play around with it and have fun.
I hope to do a few more layouts in the future - but I'm sure I'll be mostly a traditional scrapbooker. I like the feel of the elements in my hands. If you are interested in taking the plunge, I've listed a few links to shops and magazine sites with free digital elements.
Designer Digitals - Click on freebies at the top.
Little Dreamer Designs - This link is straight to the freebies but the shop is definitely worth checking out.
Creating Keepsakes Magazine - Click on the downloads menu
Scrapbooks Etc. Magazine - Check out the digital scrapbooking section.
I can't say enough about buying magazines and books on digital scrapbooking. They have LOTS of free extras/elements that make the cost of the book really worth it. With all the freebies out there, give it a try. I have this book, which even gives information on digital scrapbooking with Microsoft Word. I really feel like this page - it gave me the jumpstart I needed. I hope your Thursday is great. Until then...Happy Crafting.

Humday Challenge
So here it is - I went with the Effer Dares Challenge #132. My feelings were still a little too raw to tackle the OLW challenge - but I will in the near future. I got the hidden journaling ready on Sunday. I don't know if I mentioned this before - but I do the challenges over the weekend. I actually came home last night and decided I was going to tackle the OLW challenge for my birthday with a little twist. I'll be unveiling that tomorrow - the word unveil should not imply any type of grandeur about the layout, just that I'm excited. The Effer Dares Challenge really speaks for itself. I'm not super excited about the way it came out but I feel like it's solid design wise. It doesn't have anything funky about it and it's a little "one note" color wise - but it's done and sometimes that's all that matters. I hope this Wednesday is great for you. I'm excited to have sushi with friends to celebrate my birthday. Until then...Happy Crafting!
